Glen-Ella Springs Inn and Meeting Place

NEWS FROM GLEN-ELLA SPRINGS

IN THIS ISSUE

News from Barrie and Bobby Aycock

Front of inn

Many of you have probably already heard this, but on June 3rd, Ed and Luci Kivett became the new owners of Glen-Ella Springs. After 21 years we feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to pass the ownership of Glen-Ella to such a delightful young couple. Bobby and I are certain that they will carry on the same tradition of hospitality and good food that you all have come to expect at Glen-Ella.

Bobby and I have purchased a house in Clarkesville which we are renovating. We're living in Demorest until September. We plan to spend lots of time in St. Simons, and do some traveling whenever we can. We'd love to hear from you, so give us a call; or we can still be reached at the same email addresses for the present: baycock@glenella.com for Barrie, and bobby@glenella.com for Bobby. We'll still be around the inn occasionally this summer too. I'll still be in charge of the Heirloom Tomato Festival on July 20th, so come out and see us then, and meet Ed and Luci.

Read more about the festival in the article to the right.

A Message from Glen-Ella's New Innkeepers - Luci & Ed Kivett

Pictured above are Luci, Ed, Edward and Andrew Kivett. Glen-Ella's new Innkeepers.

We are so excited to be the new Innkeepers at Glen-Ella Springs Inn and Meeting Place! After a long journey which included setting goals, attending seminars, working with an Inn consulting firm, and plenty of soul-searching, we are thankful to have found such a special Inn. We plan to continue the tradition of hospitality that Glen-Ella Springs has become famous for, a tradition that started before the turn of the century by Glen and Ella Davidson, and was revived by Barrie and Bobby Aycock in the late 1980's. We look forward to building on the vision and offering a great experience to all who come. Please ask for us when you are here as we would love to meet you. We're looking forward to seeing you at the inn!

5th Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival Sunday, July 20th

Tomatoes

Heirloom tomato tasting, arts and crafts & local produce for sale, live music & more!

On Sunday July 20th, Glen-Ella Springs Inn will again be the site for the popular heirloom tomato festival featuring dozens of varieties of heirloom tomatoes, fine arts and crafts for sale, live music, judging for favorite tomato salsa recipe, fried green tomatoes, tomato sandwiches and tomato pies for sale and more. The tomato festival is open to the public from 11:00am - 5:00pm. The $5.00 admission fee includes the heirloom tomato tasting.

Who makes the best tomato salsa? Bring at least two cups of your recipe and let the crowd judge which is the favorite. Please use only fresh GA-grown tomatoes. We'll provide the chips and bowls to serve it. Tasting will be between 1:00 & 2:00 PM. The winner will receive a $60.00 gift certificate for dinner at Glen-Ella Springs Inn & we'll publish your recipe on our web site.

The Twilight Tomato Supper at 6:00pm will include smothered pork chops with smoked tomato gravy, something with chicken (Barrie has not finalized this yet) tomato basil cheese grits, and 'mater biscuits'. A performance reading by Julie Cannon, Glen-Ella's Tomato Queen, and entertainment by well-known vocalist Lisa Deaton will complete the evening. Pre-paid reservations are required for the supper which is $30.00 per person. The Twilight Tomato Supper is held in the pavilion. For those who enjoy wine with dinner, you may either bring your own or we will be happy to sell you a bottle at the front desk of the inn. The laws we are required to follow, prohibit us from selling or serving wine by the glass or bottle out in the pavilion.

The overnight Tomato Festival Package includes admittance to the festival, the Sunday tomato supper, overnight accommodations at the inn, and a full breakfast on Monday. The overnight package in a king or queen room at the inn is priced at $115.00 per person plus tax and gratuity, based on double occupancy. For reservations and more information, please call 1-888-455-8893, (706-754- 7295) or visit online at www.glenella.com.
