Get Excited for the Big Red Apple Festival

big red apple festivalIf you’re like us, then you’ve been looking forward to this awesome event since last fall! The 28th annual Big Red Apple Festival will take place this year on October 10th from 10 AM to 4 PM in beautiful Cornelia, GA. With tons of different activities and attractions, it’s a perfect day trip for the whole family!

About the Big Red Apple Festival

When traveling to the Georgia Mountains for the festival, be sure to book a room at Glen-Ella Springs. Just a short drive from Cornelia, our Clarkesville inn offers gorgeous and spacious three-room suites that will give your family the relaxation and comfort they’ll need after an exciting day at the Big Red Apple Festival.

This fantastic festival has something for everyone. You’ll be able to admire cars at the Key Club Classic Car Show on Hodges Street, sample food from local growers and restaurant vendors, or take a hay ride from downtown up to Chenocetah Mountain. Once at the mountain, you can take a tour of the old Fire Tower and admire the breathtaking scenery.

The kids will love the Crabapple Kid Zone, where they can ride a pony in the petting zoo or jump around on inflatables. They can also test their skills on a rock wall or challenge their family and friends in a variety of games.

There will also be live entertainment all day long featuring local and regional artists on the depot stage, and over 100 arts, crafts, and merchandise vendors for guests to browse. And, of course, there will be apples! Guests are welcome to visit the Apple Market, where they can purchase fresh, delicious apples from Jaemor Farms and various apple ciders from Hazel Creek Orchard. Yum!

City of Cornelia

In downtown Cornelia, where The Big Red Apple Festival is held, is another famous attraction – the Big Red Apple! Located at the old train depot, this 5,200-pound statue pays homage to the apple growers of the county and how important the apple industry once was to Cornelia. The monument is built of steel and concrete, and is over 7 feet high (it also sits on a pedestal, so it’s actually much higher than 7 feet), and is the focal point of the Big Red Apple Festival. It’s also a great place for a photo op!
