Some of Our Favorite North Georgia Lakes

Lake Rabun

This small and twisty lake is a scenic, 10-minute drive away from Glen-Ella Springs Inn. In fact, it’s the closest lake to the inn! Each 4th of July, Lake Rabun hosts an annual wooden boat parade and jaw-dropping fireworks show over the lake. Aside from fun North Georgia events and festivals, Lake Rabun’s shoreline is dotted with campgrounds, gorgeous vacation homes, and overlooks.

Local tip: Discover a hidden Lake Rabun secret at Minnehaha Falls, just minutes away from Glen-Ella Springs Inn!

Lake Seed

If you’re searching for the perfect place for a North Georgia fishing trip, look no further than Lake Seed! This 270-acre lake is a popular spot to catch walleye, trout, bass, catfish, and more. Our favorite Lake Seed activity, however, is kayaking! We love that this lake offers a public access point. For rentals, we recommend checking out Bear Gap Outfitters. Lake Seed just a few miles northwest of Glen-Ella Springs Inn.

Lake Burton

Lake Burton is about 45 minutes away from Glen-Ella Springs Inn and stretches for a total of 2,800 acres. This lake is a popular spot for water sports like boating, tubing, water skiing, wakeboarding, and fishing. Most people either rent a boat or take their own, but kayaking, paddleboarding, and canoeing are also available. Did you know Lake Burton was one of the first lakes created in the United States for power generation?

How to Spend a Day at a North Georgia Lake

Boating

Whether you prefer to soak up the sun on the deck, take some friends tubing, or cast a line over the side, North Georgia Lakes are perfect places to enjoy a boat day. See what vessels are available (like these Lake Rabun boat rentals) or bring your own for an unforgettable lake adventure!

Fishing

For many, fishing in North Georgia isn’t just a pastime—it’s a way of life! If you prefer fly fishing, we highly recommend doing so in one of the aforementioned lakes. Simply rent some equipment (or bring your own) and look forward to a fruitful day of angling! Try your hand at reeling in some trout, bass, walleye, or bluegill.

Kayaking and Paddleboarding

While you may not be able to experience the thrill of whitewater rafting on a lake, you can still kayak or paddleboard! These relaxing activities lend themselves perfectly to the still, serene water of North Georgia lakes. You’ll love paddling your way around and taking in the magnificent mountain scenery. Plus, you’ll get a built-in arm workout!

North Georgia Lake Events

Outdoor sports aren’t the only way to spend some time at a North Georgia lake. If you find yourself in town during a special occasion or holiday, check an area event calendar—there may just be something happening at one of these lakes!
