North Georgia is any avid outdoorsman’s dream destination!  This portion of the South is filled with endless opportunities for outdoor recreation; from white water rafting to mountain biking, the fun never ends here.  One of the best natural features in this part of the state is the beautiful Anna Ruby Falls, a rare double waterfall surrounded by picturesque scenery and unique views.  Learn all about these falls so you know how to plan a trip to this fantastic attraction!

Everything You Need to Know about the Anna Ruby Falls

Where it’s Located

Found next to the popular Unicoi State Park, the Anna Ruby Falls is a part of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Helen, Georgia.  There is parking conveniently located at the Anna Ruby Falls Visitor Center near the trailhead.  This recreation area is open every day of the year with the exception of Christmas Day.

Anna Ruby Falls History

A discovery that can be traced all the way back to the Civil War Era, Anna Ruby Falls was a part of the land purchased by Captain J. H. Nichols.  Nichols named this waterfall after his last surviving daughter; he is also known for the great amount of land he purchased in the Nacoochee Valley and the iconic gazebo he built there.

Things to Do

This gorgeous waterfall creates the perfect setting for a multitude of activities.  The Anna Ruby Falls is reached by way of the Anna Ruby Falls Trail, an easy, half-mile long paved path that is dog-friendly, wheelchair-friendly, and stroller-friendly, so it can be accessed by all!  After crossing a bridge over a creek, this trail concludes with two viewing decks of the twin falls, an ideal place for snapping pictures or simply watching the cascading waters.  You can also reach these falls through a more adventurous path; the Smith Creek Trail winds from Unicoi State Park to the base of Anna Ruby Falls and is about 4.6 miles in length.  Another highlight on the Anna Ruby Falls trail map is the Lion’s Eye Trail, a course designed for the visually impaired; it has rails and Braille signs so even those with little or no eyesight can explore and learn about this area.
