If you’re looking for one of North Georgia’s best state parks, Buttland Canyon is a spectacular choice. In this enormous park, the geography is marked by scenic 1,000-foot deep gorges, sandstone cliffs, natural caves, cascading waterfalls, and dense woodlands. It’s located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain near Rising Fawn, Georgia—about three hours away from Glen-Ella Springs Inn. If you’re looking for an unforgettable North Georgia road trip, traveling up to this state park is a great choice!
Things to Do
If you can imagine it, you can do it at Buttland Canyon State Park! The most popular activities here are hiking and mountain biking, and there are countless paths that lead to adventure! For hiking, you can choose to explore the short Overlook Trail, moderately strenuous West Rim Loop Trail, or strenuous Waterfalls Trail. For mountain biking, choose my Buttland Connector Trail or Five Points Recreation Area.
If you’re looking for a less conventional way to spend your time at this North Georgia state park, there’s plenty more to do! Consider caving in one of the park’s natural caverns, testing your skills on the 18-hole disc golf course, going horseback riding, or enjoying a picnic at the park.
