It’s that time of year again! The annual Georgia Mountain Fall Festival will be held this year from October 7th through the 15th, and is a fun and exciting affair for visitors of all ages. During this 9-day event, make Glen-Ella Springs your home base by booking your stay in one of our luxury rooms or suites. Each unique room features cozy linens, beautiful antiques, and has a rustic, Southern feel that is both elegant and relaxing. It’s the perfect home-away-from-home for you and your family in between trips to the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival.
What to Do
Just west of downtown Hiawassee, Georgia is where hundreds of people from across the Southeast come to the Fall Festival for a day full of entertainment and activities. Guests can enjoy a show at Anderson Music Hall, or purchase hand-woven blankets, birdhouses, and one-of-a-kind quilts at the arts & crafts vendors. They can also visit the Exhibition Hall, which has an eclectic collection of antiques and items from homes and businesses of Georgia Mountain locals, or walk over to the Antique Farm Museum to see a variety of farming tools and equipment used nearly two centuries ago. Kids can enjoy a trip to the Carnival Grounds, where they can see animal acts and eat classic fair food like hot dogs and funnel cake.
What to See
With mild autumn temperatures and picturesque views, Georgia in the fall is a sight to be seen. The changing fall colors of Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains make for a beautiful backdrop during the festival. Guests can view the Pine Grove Schoolhouse, which is a typical one-room schoolhouse that was built in the early 1900’s, or check out a mountain cabin that dates back to 1842. Festival-goers also love seeing the sawmill, which is a recreation of a traditional mill used in the 1800’s that could turn out 2,000 feet of lumber in just one day. The Outdoor Amphitheatre also provides an ideal view for intimate outdoor performances; the stage area seats about 100 people and features a variety of musicians and artists throughout the day.
List of Events
Each day, the Fall Festival has a unique set of events and attractions for guests to enjoy. On opening day, guests can enjoy a flower show at noon and a music show from 2 to 6 PM featuring songs and sounds of The Osmonds and the Georgia Mountain Fair Band. On October 10th, take the kids to Little Pete’s Railroad, where they can ride a functional and realistic train on a trackless railroad. On October 16, check out the Fiddler’s Convention at 7 PM, where acts in different categories will compete to become the official Georgia State Champions. Or, check out the “Old Ways” demonstrations any day during the festival to see how local folks used to make moonshine, squeeze cider, or fry pork skin back in the day.
General admission is $12, and kids 12 & under are free.
