5 of the Best Free Things to Do in North Georgia

You don’t have to break the bank to have a great time during your North Georgia vacation! In our little Blue Ridge Mountain area, there are plenty of free events and attractions that make for an awesome (and affordable) experience. Get ready to discover some incredible local talent and explore some beautiful landscapes.

A Local’s List of the Best Free Things to Do in North Georgia

1. Discover Beautiful Waterfalls

Waterfalls are some of the most enchanting natural features, and North Georgia has no shortage of breathtaking cascades! The best part? Experiencing them doesn’t cost a thing. There are dozens of waterfalls to discover near Glen-Ella Springs Inn, including the state’s tallest waterfall. If you don’t feel like venturing too far off the beaten path, check out Minnehaha Falls—it’s just 10 minutes away from the inn. Don’t forget to bring your camera! You’ll definitely want to show your friends and family when you return.

2. Take a Hike

North Georgia is the perfect place to lace up your hiking boots and blaze a trail! The Blue Ridge Mountains are brimming with awe-inspiring natural beauty, and hiking is a great way to experience it. Check out The Appalachian Trail (no, you don’t have to hike the whole thing) or the Raven Cliff Falls Trail for some of the most jaw-dropping views. Along the way, you may also have the chance to spot some wildlife!

3. Visit a Unique Boutique

When you tire of outdoor adventures, it’s time to check out some of North Georgia’s unique boutiques. Window shopping doesn’t cost a dime (and we’re grateful for that). You’ve been warned, though: You’ll probably fall in love with a one-of-a-kind piece and want to take it home with you! We recommend visiting Mark of the Potter—a shop full of handmade pottery—and some of downtown Clarkesville’s charming antique stores.

4. Treat the Kids to Priceless Memories

If you’re traveling to North Georgia with little ones, we have good news: There are several kid-friendly things to do! Are your children into Cabbage Patch Kids, one of the world’s most iconic babydoll brands? If so, take them on a free tour of Babyland General Hospital. There, they will get to see Cabbage Patch Kids as they’re “brought into the world.” Another free way to spend time with the family is to visit Goats on the Roof, one of North Georgia’s quirkiest spots! Admission to this attraction is free, but the kids will probably want to feed the goats (this requires a few dollars in cash).

5. Try Geocaching

Geocaching is like going on a modern treasure hunt, and you can do it for free at North Georgia Canopy Tours! Bring your G.P.S.-enabled smartphone, follow the instructions, and enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Along the way, you’ll learn all about the region’s rich history, colorful plants, and beautiful animals.

Our Favorite Free Activity: Relaxing at Glen-Ella Springs Inn!

Modern society downplays the value of simply doing nothing at all. Sometimes, sitting in a rocking chair and admiring the tranquil beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is just what the doctor ordered. We invite you to come and experience this for yourself! Each uniquely decorated room at our family-owned bed and breakfast allows access to an open-air porch, our Garden House (where you’ll find a variety of complimentary refreshments), and a sparkling pool. After a good night’s rest in your plush, comfortable bed, be sure to come down for a gourmet breakfast! Then, enjoy some of these free things to do in North Georgia.

It’s true what they say: Some of the best things in life are free. And North Georgia is full of them! Start planning your trip to North Georgia now and book your stay with us!
