Things to do in North Georgia This Winter
We wouldn’t blame you if you spent your entire weekend curled up and enjoying the cozy ambiance of our North Georgia Bed and Breakfast – we’ve designed it as a retreat for that purpose! However, with so many great things to do in North Georgia lying just beyond our property, you’ll probably want to get out and explore at least a little bit.
From chasing thundering waterfalls to sipping local wines, there’s plenty to love about a wintry retreat to the North Georgia Mountains. Below, we’ve listed just a few of our favorite things to do in North Georgia this winter.
- Hiking is always one of our favorite things to do in North Georgia, and they take on an entirely different appeal in the winter. It also happens to be one of the best ways to truly appreciate this special part of the Peach State.
- Next on our list of top things to do in North Georgia this winter is visiting local wineries. Though many people tend to focus on Dahlonega, about 90 minutes to the southwest of us, you’ll find some of the top Georgia wineries within 45 minutes of our Bed and Breakfast. With fewer people in the tasting rooms this winter, it’s an excellent opportunity to discover new favorites!
- You’ll find one of the top things to do in North Georgia less than 15 minutes from Glen-Ella Springs. Tallulah Falls and Tallulah Gorge State Park is a must-do activity anytime you’re in the area. At 2 miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep, the Tallulah Gorge is a truly beautiful place to see no matter the season.
- Though some of our guests love to stroll the Bavarian streets of nearby Helen, we prefer to visit the attractions near this charming town. One of those, Anna Ruby Falls, also happens to be one of our favorite things to do in North Georgia. This one is actually two waterfalls. The first has a 150-foot drop, followed by a shorter 50-foot drop. Though the falls rarely freeze over in winter, the leafless trees block far less of the view, making it a great season to visit the area’s top waterfalls!
- Winter is a wonderful time to tour the charming towns of the North Georgia Mountains. The two closest to us are Clarkesville and Clayton, but others to consider are Helen and Hiawassee, home of the Brasstown Bald.
- If you’re into antiquing, the North Georgia Mountains will be your treasure trove! Antiquing is one of the most popular things to do in North Georgia. The nearby town of Dillard has excellent options, including the Appalachian Trader, Carol’s Back Porch Antiques, and DejaVu Antiques. There’s also the Mountain Laurel Antique Mall in Cleveland.
- This winter, don’t miss a visit to Mark of the Potter, a quaint local pottery shop with a vast collection of gorgeous hand-made pottery.
- Finally, this winter is a great time to visit the Hardman Farm State Historic Site, especially if you can get there before the holidays to experience their Victorian Christmas.
