Autumn is the perfect time to come and enjoy the beauty of the North Georgia Mountains. The weather is beautiful and the leaves begin to change from green to vivid shades of gold, orange, and red. Everything comes together to create the perfect environment to enjoy a hike or even go on a horseback ride. It’s also the right time to enjoy North Georgia apple picking. There are several orchards within driving distance of Glen-Ella Springs Inn, so you can pick your own fruit and take advantage of our fall harvest! Below, we’ve listed everything you need to know about this seasonal pastime.
When to Go North Georgia Apple Picking
Fall is—hands-down—the best time to go apple picking in North Georgia. Most orchards and farms here offer this fun activity between August and November. During your trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains, we suggest going apple picking on your way home rather than while you’re staying with us. It’s a great way to break up a drive and the apples make for an ideal road snack.
Where to Go North Georgia Apple Picking
There are several places to get farm-fresh apples in the North Georgia Mountains. Whether they’re pre-picked or you pluck them from the trees yourself, you can be sure that you’ll get the freshest and sweetest produce possible! Here are some of our favorite spots:
Jaemor Farms
Jaemor Farms in Alto, GA, has a lot to do and see. Starting in September, visitors can pick their own apples (and browse plenty of other fresh produce offerings). Fall is also when the farm’s corn maze makes its appearance. Each year, the corn maze features a new theme, so you won’t experience the same maze twice. You can also go for a festive hayride here in the fall.
Hillside Orchard
At Hillside Orchard in Lakemont, GA, you can pick your own apples between August and November. And, yes—there’s a corn maze here, too! If you’re visiting earlier than August, you can still partake in blackberry picking! Be sure to bring the kids to this orchard so they can explore the barnyard and playground.
Osage Farms
Osage Farms in Dillard, GA, is a great place to get freshly picked Georgia produce. Along with apples, they grow heirloom tomatoes, cabbage, green beans, pepper, potatoes, and sweet corn. During the winter, the family that runs the farm opens a Christmas tree farm just nine miles away! There’s truly something happening all year long at Osage Farms.
