History

The state of Georgia is overflowing with amazing historic sites and landmarks with fascinating origins, and Dukes Creek is no exception!  This area was first discovered by the renowned Spanish explorer, Hernando de Soto, in the 1500s.  Spanish miners found gold here shortly after and continued to search this area for more of the precious commodity for many years.  Today, this area is now one of the most popular trails in North Georgia for exploring the great outdoors.

Things to Do

The number one Dukes Creek activity is hiking!  This terrain is fairly easy to traverse, while the short length of the trail makes it a wonderful option for a leisurely hike.  The Dukes Creek Trail begins with incredible views of Yonah Mountain, then twists along the tumbling Davis Creek.  The main attraction of this trail is the beautiful Dukes Creek Falls, which you can admire from many viewing platforms or from its base.  Dukes Creek fishing is another beloved activity here, since these waters are home to an abundance of trout.  This entire area is shaded and cool from both the trees and the water, so you can spend hours here in this refreshing weather.  You’ll also find the extraordinary Raven Cliff Falls nearby as well if you want to continue your adventure through the North Georgia Mountains.
