Enjoy a Day of Fun at the Tallulah Falls Lake

The Tallulah Gorge State Park is one of the most popular recreational areas in North Georgia and home to the beautiful Tallulah Falls Lake. It is located in the town of Tallulah Falls, GA, which has always been a favorite country destination among the city dwellers of Atlanta and Augusta. The town was named for the five falls that cascade through the 1,000 ft. Tallulah Gorge carved by the Tallulah River through the forested North Georgian Mountains. When the falls were discovered in 1819 they were named “Niagara of the South”, becoming so popular that residents opened their homes to visitors. In 1882 the railroad reached Tallulah Falls making it the established tourist attraction it is today.

What You Need to Know About the Tallulah Falls Lake

Tallulah Falls Lake Activities

Near the Tallulah Falls Town Hall, there is a public dock and boat launch for visitors to get their boats in the water or just have a nice lakeside picnic. The horsepower limit for the lake is 5hp because of its small size. Take a tour of the town via boat and take in the breathtaking views of this scenic North Georgia destination. With a boat on the water, you can also enjoy some Tallulah Falls Lake fishing, which requires a fishing license or permit that can be purchased locally. The lake is most commonly fished for black crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass, redear sunfish, spotted bass, and white crappie. Feel free to take a dip off your boat, but if you are visiting without one, then head over to the Terrora Day Use Area for some swimming in the Tallulah Falls Lake.
