Imagine not having to worry about stress at the office. Imagine replacing your noisy urban surroundings with singing birds, fresh air, and sweeping views of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. When you spend at least three days in North Georgia, that’s exactly what you’ll experience! We’ve created the ultimate 3-day itinerary below so you can make the most of your trip.
Here’s How to Spend 3 Days in North Georgia
Day 1
Morning: Breakfast, Coffee, and a Stroll Through Clarkesville
There’s no better way to kick off your getaway from Atlanta than sipping a local cup of coffee and taking in the fresh mountain air. Begin with a complimentary gourmet breakfast at Glen-Ella Springs Inn, then head about 15 minutes south into downtown Clarkesville, Georgia. There, you can park the car and pop in Java Joe’s Bistro for a cuppa to power you through your morning stroll.
Afternoon: Boutique and Antique Shopping
After fueling up for the relaxing day ahead of you, it’s time to wander in and out of an array of charming boutiques! Our local shops—most operated by friendly locals—are part of what makes our area so unique. We recommend putting Elizabeth and Company, Coffee Corner Antiques, The Old Clarkesville Mill, and Rahab’s Rope on your itinerary. If you don’t mind venturing out of downtown Clarkesville, we also recommend stopping by The Old Sautee General Store and Mark of the Potter.
Evening: Dinner at Glen-Ella Springs Inn
You’ve shopped ‘til you dropped, but the day isn’t over just yet. By now, you’ve worked up a big appetite that only hearty Southern food can satisfy. Make a reservation at our on-site restaurant and get ready to indulge in an acclaimed fine dining experience! You’ll love the rustic-chic interior of our dining room and the lovingly crafted dinner we bring to your table. Don’t forget dessert!
Day 2
Morning: Blaze Your Own Trail
You’ve fallen in love with the small-town side of North Georgia, but there’s so much more to explore here. Day two means time for adventure! Whether you prefer hiking, biking, kayaking, rafting, or fly fishing, you’re sure to discover your inner outdoorsman. Once you’ve had breakfast at the inn, head just 10 minutes north to Tallulah Gorge State Park. Here, you’ll see stunning waterfalls, hike down a canyon that’s 1,000 feet deep, and cross a thrilling suspension bridge. If you’re most looking forward to North Georgia’s rugged side, be sure to book our Adventure Package for the ultimate outdoor experience!
Afternoon: Enjoy a Picnic Lunch in Front of a Waterfall
A wilderness workout can be quite tiring, but, luckily, many of the best hiking spots are also incredible picnic settings. Whether you stay for lunch in the park you hiked through or want to bring food to a scenic spot you haven’t yet seen, your perfect picnic spot is waiting. We recommend lunching in Tallulah Gorge State Park or in front of Minnehaha Falls (just 5-10 minutes away from the inn).
Evening: Restock and Refuel in Clayton
If you find yourself near Clayton, Georgia, by the end of the day, why not abide a while? Like Clarkesville, nearby Clayton is a cute, quaint, and walkable North Georgia town. Start by visiting Wander North Georgia, a modern concept shop with outdoor gear, gifts, and even ice cream! Then, once dinnertime hunger strikes, head to either Fortify Kitchen and Bar or Fromage and Other Fine Foods.
Day 3
Morning: See a Mountain Sunrise from Your Rocking Chair
After day two’s outdoor adventures, another day of relaxation is in order. That’s why we recommend kicking off day three with a priceless, effort-free activity: Watching the sunrise from your front-porch rocking chair! Every accommodation at Glen-Ella Springs Inn provides guests with wraparound porch access and two rocking chairs. Pair your early morning relaxation with a cup of freshly brewed, eco-friendly coffee from your ensuite Keurig. There’s no better way to kick off the day!
Afternoon: Hit the North Georgia Wine Highway
There’s one more facet of North Georgia that you absolutely must experience: Our wineries! Our region is commonly referred to as the Wine Country of the Southeast, and we can certainly see why. There are countless local vineyards to discover here, and they’re all within driving distance of Glen-Ella Springs Inn! Two of our favorites for tastings include Yonah Mountain Vineyards and Serenity Cellars. These two wineries are different from one another, yet offer equally fabulous experiences. They’re only five minutes away from each other, so you can easily visit both in one afternoon!
Evening: Enjoy a Peaceful Night’s Rest Before Heading Home
If you only have three full days to spend in North Georgia, there’s only one more thing to cross off your list: A peaceful night’s sleep! Before heading out, spend one more night with us at Glen-Ella Springs Inn. We’ll make sure to send you off the next morning feeling relaxed and well-rested!
