Our Favorite Waterfalls in Northern Georgia

1. Minnehaha Falls

You don’t have to travel far from Glen-Ella Springs Inn to see a truly incredible waterfall! Just a quick 10-minute drive away from the inn is Minnehaha Falls—a hidden gem along the banks of beautiful Lake Rabun. Simply spot the sign, find a spot to park on the side of the road, and hike the short trail up to the waterfall. You’ll come across a smaller waterfall before arriving at “the big one.” You’ll know Minnehaha Falls when you see it!

2. Amicalola Falls

Amicalola Falls is the tallest waterfall in the state of Georgia at 729 feet high. The name “Amicalola” comes from the Cherokee word that means “tumbling waters.” The breathtaking falls located within Amicalola Falls State Park are among the “Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia!”

3-4 Panther Creek Falls and Angel Falls

These two North Georgia waterfalls are located in Rabun County along the Angel Falls Trail. Panther Creek Falls is the first waterfall you’ll encounter along the trail, followed by Angel Falls. Both are about 50 feet high. The moderately strenuous, 1-mile trail begins at the Rabun Beach Camping Area. The views are worth the hike!

5. Tallulah Falls

If you’ve ever been to Tallulah Gorge State Park, you know that it boasts some of North Georgia’s most dramatic natural features. Tallulah Falls is actually a series of six waterfalls. The individual falls are called l’Eau d’Or, Tempesta, Hurricane, Oceana, Bridal Veil, and Lover’s Leap. Hike down Tallulah Gorge (and over the thrilling suspension bridge) to see all of these incredible falls!

6. Toccoa Falls

One of the most stunning waterfalls in the Eastern half of the U.S. is Toccoa Falls! This stunning natural structure boasts a 186-foot vertical drop. This waterfall is located in Stephens County, Georgia, and makes for an incredible photo opportunity. Did you know that the word “toccoa” is the Cherokee word for “beautiful?”

7. High Shoals Falls

Accessed by a 2.7-mile round trip hike, High Shoal Falls is a massive 50-foot tumbling waterfall. Many say that this is another one of the best waterfalls in north Georgia.

How to Pack When Hiking for Waterfalls in Georgia

It might seem odd, but you never know how long you might be out when you are hiking in the forests of North Georgia. A good packing list can be the difference between a great day out and one filled with an avoidable tragic incident. We always recommend taking a bag with any medicine you take, a backup battery for your phone, some water, and snacks in case you get hungry. Always make a plan for what you plan on seeing and let someone else know before you head out incase you get stuck!
